Connecting the Next Generation to the Natural World

How Can We Help the Next Generation?

Today’s youth are spending more time indoors and on screens than ever before and it’s taking a toll. Children are experiencing Nature Deficit Disorder and struggling in these key areas:

Feronia Forward is committed to changing that

Our Programs Put Kids Back in Touch With the Natural World, Boosting Mental Health and Physical Wellbeing

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Berkshire County, Massachusetts that creates transformative outdoor experiences designed to reconnect young people with nature, not just for fun, but to strengthen their emotional wellbeing, sense of self, and ability to thrive.

Through hands-on learning in a natural setting, students develop confidence, resilience, and key social-emotional skills like collaboration, communication, and self-regulation. Whether they’re climbing through the trees at Ramblewild, exploring forest trails at BaseCamp, or working together to overcome challenges, every moment is an opportunity for growth.

Educators and program leaders can apply directly through our website. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are able to fully fund these experiences for the youth who need them most, especially those who may never have had the chance to connect with nature before.

Two Paths, One Forest Experience

BaseCamp

BaseCamp is a forest experience designed for younger students (at least 40 inches in height) or those needing extra support. It combines environmental education with a unique tree-to-tree adventure. BaseCamp offers a safe, guided experience where participants remain securely attached to the course at all times. With a focus on environmental learning, nature exploration, teamwork, and self-discovery, BaseCamp is perfect for early grades and mixed-ability groups.

Ramblewild

The Ramblewild Aerial Park is a dynamic tree-to-tree climbing experience for older students that typically does not include environmental education. The entire class must consist of students who are at least 55" tall and 7 years old for the aerial park. It challenges participants to step out of their comfort zones, build resilience, and work together while navigating rope bridges, ziplines, and elevated obstacles.

What Can Outdoor Experiences Do For Children?

Nature supports more than learning — it supports the whole child. When students step into the natural world, they begin to build self-awareness, resilience, and emotional strength. Outdoor experiences encourage teamwork, empathy, communication, and problem-solving — all key components of social-emotional learning. As they navigate forest trails or overcome physical challenges, children learn to regulate emotions, manage fear, trust others, and celebrate their own growth.

These moments in nature offer more than just a break from the classroom — they create safe, powerful spaces for personal discovery, connection, and confidence that students carry with them long after they leave the woods.
